Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a Vehicle Motion Development Engineer to join the R&D Vehicle Motion function. Reporting to the Functional Manager, the Vehicle Motion Development Engineer will work on all aspects of Engine / Vehicle Motion hardware design and development, across conventional internal combustion engines, PHEVs and Battery Electric powertrains. In this role you will support the testing and development of the current & future range of internal combustion and electrified powertrains to ensure we meet ever more challenging emissions and fuel economy standards in the short/medium term, as well as supporting relevant field quality topics.
- To develop and manage project timing plans in line with project PEP milestones
- Management and coordination of outsourced engineering projects and work packages: supporting own team and other Bentley R&D teams with their engine / powertrain test planning, test setup, issue resolution, procurement of test hardware and software, and results analysis
- Liaison with component and system suppliers
- Leading cross-functional issue resolution activities
- Control engineering spend and budget for his/her area of responsibility
- Cross functional working and technical support for R&D, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and liaising with group partners
About the Team
Our key role going forward is to optimise and adapt Vehicle Motions/Powertrains into Bentley products to maintain our unique driving characteristics. Going forward this enables the opportunity to work on new technologies as we move towards full electrification.
In addition to this we also support our current range of internal combustion powertrains both in production and service (aftersales).
About you – Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have knowledge of Engine/Vehicle Motion engineering systems and processes. You will be working in a dynamic and flexible environment, undertaking several projects simultaneously relating to Engine / Vehicle Motion products and concepts. It would be preferable to have some CAD experience & knowledge of MatLab.You will demonstrate:
- Knowledge / experience of Engine / Powertrain testing and associated systems / software
- Problem solving techniques (six-sigma qualifications would be advantageous), presentation skills and data analysis
- Good knowledge of Engine / Vehicle Motion components and systems
- Aptitude to quickly develop skills in new areas of technical expertise
- Ability to take full component / system / process ownership
- An Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant experience
