Purpose of the Role
Join the Metrology team as the Metrology Technical Lead where you'll be responsible for leading the team to ensure delivery of targets and compliance with health and safety and provide input to the strategic direction for the department and working at an operational level to ensure this, is delivered. This role plays a pivotal role in driving sustainable quality improvement supporting the launch of all new product and all existing product to end of production.
Reporting into the Head of Metrology, your main responsibilities include;
- Accountable for ensuring new vehicle project measurement requirements are defined and met in line with key PEP deliverables (e.g. development and delivery of Meisterbock & Cubing properties, measurement fixtures for single parts, assemblies & BIW’s are budgeted and procured). Ensure appropriate resources, facilities, equipment & finance are acquired
- Accountable for leading a team of experts in providing advanced dimensional & measurement knowledge and influence into the business that includes approval of all dimensional aspects of critical technical part drawing, product B-release & release of Bid specs and supports relevant production process development
- Provides a technical interface to the supply base (e.g. approval of supplier parts verification, checking and measurement fixtures, cubing fixtures and site wide calibration, measurement techniques) prior to Bentley’s financial commitment to manufacture
- Development, test and execution of measurement protocols that provide systematic evaluation of key In-house parts, including VW group supplied bodies. This is done by leading cross functional teams to assess the business risk associated with non-conformance of parts
- Uses technical expertise and works cross-functionally to identify critical components to be prioritised for Metrology Dimensional sign-off.
- Responsible for the dimensional measurement & confirmation within own TA for tools, fixtures, equipment, supplied parts, bodies & vehicles
- Resolves technical business issues with measurement & dimensional significance including presenting status up to Board level
- Influences business in technical decisions based on data and facts to improve product
We utilise state-of-the-art measurement equipment and seek to further innovate to achieve benchmark analysis.
We have recently (end of 2024) relocated into a brand new facility in the heart of Bentley. Within the Launch Quality Centre, various technical teams collaborate to deliver quality analysis and improvement supporting both the launch and ongoing production of all of our world class vehicles.

- Extensive experience in all theoretical and practical aspects of Metrology with a particular emphasis on automotive quality
- Demonstrable experience in application of quality tools and practical problem solving.
- Demonstrable experience of managing and motivating a highly technical team whilst developing and managing their performance
- Demonstrable experience of budget management, including resource planning and strategic investment
- Demonstrable experience in cube sourcing and measurement fixture design & acquisition
- Demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels in the business – internally and externally and able to influence outcomes throughout the complete organisation, using expert technical knowledge and extensive experience
- Extensive experience in project management
