Purpose of the Role
Join the Design Analysis Team as the Powertrain Simulation Engineer where you'll support the ongoing development and application of PHEV and Battery Electric Vehicle simulation methods and processes to support our current and future vehicles. A hands-on simulation role, with a strong emphasis on delivering simulation support to vehicle development programs on time and within budget, playing a pivotal role in driving our Beyond100 strategy. Reporting into the Functional Manager your main responsibilities include;

 

  • Maintenance and development of 1D powertrain models to support a variety of use cases and requirements
  • Delivering simulation support to vehicle development on time and within budget
  • Simulation of physical powertrain test and certification processes
  • Extensive use of Matlab and Simulink including cosimulation
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with the hardware development and calibration teams
  • Planning and delivery of simulation support

 

About the Team
The Design Analysis Team is part of the Vehicle Motion Department in Bentley R&D. Vehicle Motion merges traditional Powertrain and Chassis functions into one unified team responsible for the way a Bentley moves, from accelerating and braking, to cornering and ride comfort. It also delivers advanced driver assistance systems and Bentley’s journey to autonomous luxury.

The Design Analysis Team goal is to develop our cars in the virtual environment as much as possible. With experts in powertrain, vehicle dynamics, mechatronics and thermofluids simulation, using the latest simulation tools to meet the challenges of increasing complexity, electrification and advanced chassis technologies.

 

About you – Skills and Experience

The position holder will have a Higher Engineering degree or equivalent experience in automotive powertrain simulation.

  • Experience of BEV powertrain application development
  • Working in a multi-brand, vehicle platform sharing environment, particularly in the area of derivative application development
  • Working knowledge of software including GT-Suite, ETAS Inca and Synopsis Silver
  • Experience with ICE powertrain development would be an advantage including combustion correlation and turbo charger analysis knowledge
  • Cross functional multi-national collaboration
