Purpose of the Role
We are seeking 3 x Manufacturing Vehicle Electricians to join us on a permanent basis at our Crewe Campus. Reporting to the Team Leader for Manufacturing Launch working on pre-series / early production vehicles you will be responsible for electrical commissioning and fault finding on ICE and BEV vehicles. This could include following standardised work, completing electrical production tests and rectification as well as in depth investigations and root cause analysis on complex electrical faults. Electrical issues can be highly complex and involve multiple colleagues working cross functionally to reach resolution. This role will involve close interaction with other Launch electricians and specialists from across the business to properly identify issues, ensure correct escalation and collaborate with others to resolve issues and deliver goals.
- (Using production test equipment to confirm the electrical condition of vehicles
- Rectification of electrical issues to achieve OK test status
- Electrical fault finding on vehicles
- Use of laptops and software to commission / align vehicle electrical systems
- Understanding failure modes, test results, fault codes and potential causes
- Lead or support complex issue resolution with evidence of solution/containment
- Work flexibly within the Team.
- Support requests for overtime as required, to achieve daily objectives.
- Actively share information and analysis data & skills within the Team to increase / improve quality, training and transparency of electrical issues
- Always use the correct escalation process:- Team Leader/Production Manager/Senior Production Manager.
- Maintain good 5s controls – ownership within your work area
- Ability to train and coach other colleagues on specific techniques and methods for electrical rectification
About you – Skills and Experience
- Good general working knowledge of electrical part design, manufacture and assembly of Electrical Distribution Systems
- Design for Manufacture & Assembly methodologies for electrical systems
- Proven experience working as an Automotive or qualified electrician
- Logical approach to problem identification and resolution for electrical issues of a complex nature
- Knowledge and experience of production-based electrical test equipment
- Knowledge and experience of software packages used to commission/align vehicles
- Computer literate with good technical skills in Microsoft Office and related applications
- Manufacturing Automotive build process knowledge and rework
- Demonstrable experience of electrical architecture and the application of diagnostic equipment for different systems
- Concerns identification, analysis and resolution experience for issues of a complex electrical nature
Practical and Technical Knowledge
The applicant should have a good level of understanding of the below:
- Programming knowledge (coding ECUs etc.)
- Knowledge of production control systems
- Knowledge of Automotive test systems (electrical testing)
- Knowledge of Electrical harness drawings (Schaltplans)
- Knowledge of Production and Engineering test equipment (VW Group systems e.g. IDEX, VAS, CP Tool, ODIS advantageous)
- Extensive knowledge of vehicle assembly process
- Ability to root cause and work proactively on complex electrical problems
- Good team worker but can also work individually on tasks
- Patient and methodical approach to problem solving and root cause
- Ability to log and track faults with clear fix identification
- Ability to flash vehicles and single units (ECU’s) following guiding principles
