LEARNING AT WORK WEEK AT BENTLEY: INSPIRING GROWTH AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY

In May 2026, Bentley marked Learning at Work Week by providing a range of sessions to support colleagues personal growth through learning and skills development. The week celebrated learning in all its forms from formal training and digital platforms to mentoring, project experience and everyday development opportunities.

A range of sessions took place, including in-person and virtual learning. The week had sessions across self-development & colleague journeys, software-defined vehicles, artificial intelligence and digital learning. Colleagues also had access to manufacturing training and digital learning sessions, supporting development across all areas of the business.

Learning and development at Bentley go beyond formal programmes, taking shape through everyday opportunities such as mentoring, feedback, and charterships. Below, Daniel and Erin share reflections on their personal development journeys and the value they’ve gained along the way, highlighting the real impact of engaging in these learning opportunities.

  • Turning feedback into impactful leadership: Erin Cox, Process Manager

For Erin Cox, winner of the 2025 Relentlessly Extraordinary “Grow Personally” Award, 360-degree feedback has been a powerful tool in shaping her leadership approach.

Reflecting on the experience, Erin shares:

“Using 360-degree feedback changed my approach to leadership development by giving me a broader, more honest understanding of how others experience my leadership.”

The process helped highlight key areas for growth, particularly around communication and leadership style, encouraging a shift towards a more inclusive and collaborative approach:

“This helped me shift my focus from intention to impact… encouraging greater team input and improving delegation.”

By turning insight into action, Erin focused on embedding these learnings into her day-to-day leadership. From involving her team more closely in decision-making to creating space for feedback, these changes have strengthened both engagement and performance:

“I made a conscious effort to turn feedback and learning into visible actions… actively involving the team in decision-making.”

Her approach also reflects a strong commitment to creating a culture where learning is prioritised, even in fast-paced environments:

“I see development not as an added extra, but as a key part of delivering sustainable results.”

  • From apprentice to mentor, Daniel Butler, Vehicle Safety Integration Technical Manager

Development at Bentley doesn’t stop at individual growth, it’s about passing that learning on to others.

In R&D, Daniel Butler’s journey from apprentice to mentor highlights the value of mentoring in driving growth, with his experience demonstrating how guidance and support can shape long-term career development:

“Exposure to different areas of the business learning what they do and how they contribute to the success of both my department, and the wider business, gave great insight into the overall function of the company. The added value of building a wide-reaching network of contacts also proved to be useful for years, both in times of needing urgent support, but also long-term when cross-functional working means you already have connections.”

Now mentoring an apprentice himself, Daniel reflects on how the experience has further developed his own skills:

“Having seen both sides of mentorship, the development mainly focuses on interpersonal skills, but with an element of technical knowledge… My original mentor was not technically orientated to Engineering, which improved my ability to describe problems in a simplified/concise manner, leading to increased engagement and understanding in senior forums. She did however have a breadth of experience in personal development, setting challenges to push me out of my comfort zone… leading to growth.

“As a mentor now, it is an ability to repay that time and experience by helping others, and offering different perspectives… with an element of the unknown which adds to the ability to adapt in the moment.”

Together, these experiences highlight Bentley’s commitment to continuous learning as part of its Beyond100+ strategy, empowering colleagues to grow, connect and succeed.
