OLIVIA'S STORY
Name: Olivia Sheerin
Studying: Business with International Business Degree
Role: Purchase Graduate
We interviewed Olivia and asked about her experience as a Graduate colleague at Bentley Motors...
What made you choose a Graduate Role at Bentley?
Bentley’s continuous recognition as a UK Top Employer is what initially attracted me to learn more about the Graduate Scheme. However, after reading more about the opportunities available within the company it made me excited about the prospect to work for this prestigious brand.
I completed an International Business Degree and with Bentley being apart of the Volkswagen Group, this allowed me the unique chance to experience diverse working environments and cultures; whilst also having the opportunity to travel within Group.
Secondly, Bentley offers Graduates the chance to explore and learn more about different departments within the company which was incredibly appealing as it would allow me to gain a comprehensive understanding of areas as well as my home department.
Could you share the most exciting thing you have done so far at Bentley?
The most exciting thing I have done so far, would have to be my recent travels to visit Group Partners in Bratislava and Gyoer, Hungary. This opportunity arose during my 5-month placement within the BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) Product Line, where I was able to visit our VW and AUDI partners and do a Factory Line Walk to see the Group cars being produced.
How was your transition into your placement role and what support did you get from the early careers team?
My Induction week at Bentley was incredibly well organised with support and guidance available continuously throughout the week from both my Home Department and the Early Careers Team.
The mornings were aligned to networking with other Graduates also starting and learning more about Bentley, which was incredibly helpful in putting any nerves I initially had to rest. It made the transition into my Graduate Role much more enjoyable.
If you could offer advice to someone applying for placement or graduate roles at Bentley, what would you share from your journey?
When applying for the Graduate Scheme I would definitely recommend to become familiar with the Bentley Behaviours and learn more about the ‘Bentley Life’ on our Careers Page. Being able to show a genuine interest in the company and your passion to work for Bentley will make you stand out from other applicants.
I found that the STAR Interview technique also helped me answer Competency Based questions and made it easier for me to stay on track with my answers. Any interview you do is going to be nerve-wracking so ensuring that you’re prepared will make it easier and a little bit more enjoyable..!
Don’t forget to be yourself and let your personality shine!
What aspects of Bentley have made your placement experience unique and enjoyable?
The people at Bentley I would say is the reason to why this Graduate Scheme has been so enjoyable. From my Home Department to the Production Line Placement, everyone that I have met has been so welcoming and helpful. No question is ever too much, and everyone is supportive of your development!
From your experience, what sets Bentley apart from other industrial placements in terms of supporting early career talent?
What makes this Graduate Scheme stand out from other Early Career schemes is the unique approach to personal and professional development. It allows you to shape your own learning experience; putting you in control of your career path. You have the opportunity across the 2-years to tailor placements to match your own interests and career aspirations which isn’t always acceptable within other Schemes.
