About the role

We are seeking a High Voltage Charging Systems Engineer to join the business on a Permanent/Fixed Term Contract basis, at our Crewe Campus (Hybrid working). Reporting to the Functional Manager – Power Systems the High Voltage Charging Systems Engineer will be responsible for the Electrical System Integration and sign-off for the High Voltage Charging Systems, both on and off vehicle, across all relevant projects at Bentley.

The Energy Systems Department in Electrical & Electronic Engineering delivers the energy platform for our conventional and electric drive products. We develop low (12V), medium (48V), and high voltage (~400V+) systems, functions (including energy management of the buses), and components.

Also part of the team is Thermal Management Electronics (including HVAC systems) which control the cooling of the electric drive components, and also as high power consumers; we have the full envelope of energy management and cooling control in one team.


Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, Integrate and Validate the High Voltage Charging components, both on and off vehicle, for all relevant PHEV/BEV projects in line with Product Emergence Process.
  • Support the Release process for charging components on current and future Bentley projects, including issue resolution and implementation of engineering change
  • Work cross functionally with the Systems Engineering team to develop a road map for the Charging Services that will be required/available on future Bentley projects.
  • Manage suppliers and coordinate with VW group High Voltage Charging System Engineers to deliver fully functional High Voltage systems for Bentley future vehicles.
  • Support for Functional Safety and Golden Rules (ENG 005 036 Emissions Control Module Application Process) activities as required.


About the Person

The successful applicant will have an engineering background and have an understanding of vehicle high voltage systems with experience of problem solving techniques and the ability to work cross functionally.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience with CAN. Flexray and LIN bus systems
  • Electronic/electrical fault finding combined with an ability to problem solve
  • Experience with Vector Tools – CANape, CANoe, CANanalyser, INCA and Diagra
  • Understanding of software development and experience of writing electronic system specifications
  • Understand Functional Safety and Golden Rules processes, including familiarity of supporting tools: SCD, FAHST, CRETA Pilot, DMS
  • An Engineering degree or equivalent qualification/equivalent experience
