About the role

We are seeking an Engineer - On Board Diagnostics to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe campus (hybrid working options available). Reporting to the Functional Manager – Systems Calibration and OBD, the Engineer – On Board Diagnostics will contribute towards the knowledge and practical capabilities to define and shape the development of primarily Vehicle Motion On-Board Diagnostics for Bentley. The role is responsible for proposing legally compliant solutions that align with both VW Group best practise and the specific requirements from the authorities for Bentley’s products.


Key responsibilities include:

The Vehicle Motion Software/DAS team are an integral part of the Motion department within R&D at Crewe.  They are responsible for bringing the Bentley Powertrain and DAS system requirements to life in our products, largely through solutions from the group platform system toolkit in order to meet the required performance targets.  

  • Accountable for deliverables to a specified timeframe, quality and cost
  • Working within the team to develop and maintain specialist technical and business knowledge and capability
  • Contributing towards the development of the strategic technical direction within specialist area; broad awareness of process and operational requirements within the area, provide technical know-how in relation to product planning
  • Maintain effective communication internally and within VW Group; participation and effective representation of function/company in appropriate technical meetings such as the OBD Working Group, ensure factual and effective communication is provided at all levels, including within all cross-functional working teams 


About the Person

The successful candidate will ideally offer established experience in an OBD capacity from an Automotive Engineering or Technical Conformity role. You will demonstrate experience of successful authority interactions for multiple projects across a number of product lines. You will need excellent communication and influencing skills to work cross functionally, with VW group partners and also external governance agencies and suppliers. You will ideally have some experience of dealing with CARB and other legislative authorities.


 You will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience of OBD software calibration and application knowledge gained from the automotive industry
  • Proven understanding and application of all required sign off, legislative and environmental requirements, including documentation
  • Knowledge of OBD Systems, automotive product processes and competitor products
  • Ability to share technical knowledge effectively
