EDS Functional Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a Functional Manager - Electrical Distribution Systems to join the business on a permanent basis, at our Crewe site. Reporting to the Head of Department, the Functional Manager is responsible for leading, managing and developing a team that ensures both capacity and capability to deliver technical and business objectives to the right quality, on time and within budget for Electrical Engineering.

 

The role is part of the Electrical/Electronic Engineering department within the Research and Development function at Bentley. We are responsible for all the electrical and electronic infrastructure and platform onto which the customer facing features are built – including wiring, mechanical integration, embedded computers, and data networking/architecture, and some of the features themselves.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and direct a team to deliver technical solutions in the field of Electrical Distribution systems, to the defined Product Emergence Process
  • Develop strong working relationships with VW Group colleagues and direct counterparts to support team deliverables.
  • Responsible for organisation/structure design in order to achieve effective product development deliverables from first principles onwards.
  • Management of all resourcing activities, personal development/talent management and succession planning to achieve team strategy.
  • Management of team budgets (projects, cost centre and capital) and resource plans to support multiple product development projects.
  • Promoting and facilitating a Systems Engineering approach

 

About the Person

The successful applicant will be an expert in the field of Electrical distribution systems/ wire harness systems, with proven people management and strong leadership experience and the ability to communicate effectively cross functionally and present in forums up to Board level. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience as a people manager with strong leadership skills
  • Previous experience of automotive product development in electrical distribution systems, and familiarity with the key industry supply chain partners.
  • Good business awareness with the ability to influence decisions cross functionally, coupled with excellent communication skills
  • Experience of Electrical Distribution Systems Tier 1 supplier processes, tools and methodology including harnesses and associated components.
  • Ability to work across the Business to ensure right first time KSK designs from the structure of the harness to the delivery and installation to the vehicle.
  • Knowledge of the specific requirements of High Voltage Systems
  • Design for Manufacture, optimisation of the system and competitor analysis
  • Design verification and testing of the EDS System to ensure robust and cost effective designs
  • Project and people KPI planning and monitoring as well as resource planning
  • Project and budget management/forecasting skills
