About the role

We are seeking a Trim Developer to join Research and Development. Reporting to the Functional Manager Seat Trim Development, the Trim Developer will provide a flexible, responsive and professional trim development service to internal customers in development, build and reporting on all interior, seat and ancillary components. The Trim developer will provide technical expertise in all aspects of leather trimming technologies including problem solving, continuous improvement and training in support of business objectives.

 

The Materials & Trim Development Department within Body & Trim Engineering are responsible for the development and execution of all materials. They support the Interior Execution and Seat Comfort attributes of all our products, with responsibility for driving future proof developments, innovations and technical roadmaps underpinned with departmental strategy. They offer departmental services to other VW group brands and external clients through the Bentley Design & Engineering Service. We are a department of approximately 40 internal heads, with an extensive partner strategy structured around sub functional teams working across all product lines and model years.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate, give feasibility and get cross functional support for all new trim designs with regard to cut, sew & trim of leather clad components and flat cut carpets for all Interior and Seat components
  • To achieve a successful hand-over of new trim processes into Manufacturing and external suppliers
  • To develop and support new trim related technologies
  • To support ad hoc developments requested by the Bentley Board & Marketing and Group

 

 About the person

The successful candidate will be an established Trim Developer / Engineer looking to utilise their skills in a different capacity. The role requires good communication skills across internal customers and external suppliers, including that of coaching/training others in all trimming/upholstery skills and processes.

 

You will demonstrate:

  • Experienced in all trim applications and disciplines, ability to produce highly accurate working level and master patterns, skilled in pattern development, sewing and trimming of all interior components
  • Knowledge of all trimming materials and how they perform /react in different environments, previous experience of developing seat/interior components for manufacture
  • Ability to coach and train others in all trimming/upholstery skills & processes and to guide suppliers in trim execution to achieve Bentley standard of execution.
  • Ability to guide engineering decisions on the best outcome for the product
