About the Role

We are seeking an Acoustics Engineer to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe site. Reporting to the Functional Manager Acoustics, the Acoustics Engineer will support the delivery of current model lines and development of new experiences for future model lines. Working closely with the Technical Manager – Sound Quality, the Acoustics Engineer will have responsibility for the technical delivery of the whole vehicle Sound Quality attribute target performance, on time and within budget, in collaboration with internal and external business partners


The Whole Vehicle - Acoustics Team are responsible for the delivery of all NVH attributes across the entire Bentley portfolio. The Sound Quality of Bentley products has always been one of our key class-leading attributes, highly sought-after and valued by our customers.  As Bentley now embarks upon its Beyond100 strategy, within a rapidly developing technology landscape and market place, we must ensure that we maintain our competitive advantage, which is becoming even more challenging than ever before as we transition from traditional internal combustion engine to electric motor propulsion, within a disruptive market place.


Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the setting and delivery of subjective and objective Sound Quality attribute targets
  • Supporting the definition of system acoustic targets; these could range from passive exhaust to electronic sound enhancement systems
  • Supporting the development of new processes and methodologies to enhance Whole Vehicle – Acoustics capability and competence
  • Supporting exterior noise legislation compliance checks
  • Creating detailed calibrations of electronic sound enhancement systems
  • Performing relevant objective and subjective acoustic assessments of systems


About the Person

The successful applicant will be an established Acoustics Engineer with proven ability to balance different sound sources in the vehicle to deliver cohesive sound and unique customer requirements by the translation of sound design into interior and exterior sound calibrations. You will have experience in sound quality, sound design, soundscapes and cross modal experiences and will be looking to enhance your skills in a dedicated acoustics environment. You will be a self-starter with a customer focused mind set, have excellent communication skills combined with the proactive ability to collaborate with and deliver results to a broad range of stake holders across the business .An understanding of current exterior noise legislation would be advantageous.


The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience in acoustic data acquisition and analysis techniques
  • Acoustic simulation experience
  • Subjective evaluation skills
  • Jury evaluation studies
  • Product Development experience
  • Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and manage multiple task and deliver within project constraints
  • A degree in acoustics or equivalent experience
