About the Role

We are seeking a Concepts Engineer to join the business on a Permanent basis, at our Crewe site. Reporting to the Vehicle Architecture Manager, the Concepts Engineer will be responsible for specification or integration of design requirements for an area of responsibility within the Cockpit zone.  


The Cockpit zone team leads the concept development for instrument panel, centre consoles and seating. They are responsible for the integration of architectural layout to deliver UI/UX strategy, the definition of primary control concept for IP & Console and the development of seating & restraint configurations aligned to regulatory requirements.  Our ambition is to provide impartial technical concepts at a complex stage of the project, ensuring that the Cockpit meets all customer & ergonomic requirements to deliver cockpit configurations aligned to project requirements and Integrating latest group technology aligned to customer expectations.


Vehicle Architecture are part of Vehicle Concepts. Our vision is to create and develop technical vehicle concepts aligned to customer requirements, that realise the business objectives Incorporating relevant information and expertise, to facilitate delivery through the development and build phases in accordance with the Cycle Plans.


Responsibilities include:

  • Creation and maintenance of parametric primary hard points within a CATIA environment for cockpit & seating zone, ownership of cross departmental reviews and feasibility of primary hard points in line with project timings and gateways
  • Generation & development of innovative concept proposals and package environments for Cockpit zone content to meet future legislative, customer centric and company requirements in line with project timings and gateways, assuming ownership of cross departmental review and feasibility of concept proposals
  • Review and feedback on surface releases regarding hard point and package compliance to ensure aligned development and agreed feasibility status at design process gateways
  • Lead and track package development status for cockpit & seating zone through management of CATIA environment and relevant tracking documents to provide status
  • Lead and liaise with departments and group partners to provide lead on Cockpit zone technologies
  • Benchmarking assessment of group, automotive sector and other industries to identify and assess innovation and class leading attributes


About the Person

The successful applicant will be a Concepts Engineer with proven experience in the concept phase of projects. You will be innovative, raising new ideas in various forums to generate discussion and have the ability to multi task several projects that are often subject to change.   


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent Catia skills, ability to start with an empty model and create sections, part geometry, assemblies, packages, targets and designs
  • Demonstrable experience of content / systems within the Cockpit zone – consisting of Instrument panel, Centre console & Seating systems
  • Ability to deal with conflicts, process all technical information and present information
  • Excellent Problem Solving skills, applying various tools to achieve the right results for the vehicle
  • Excellent communication skills, able to deal with all cross departmental situations and work toward clear agreements
