Purpose of the Role

Join Body & Trim as the Technical Manager – Sealing where you will provide technical leadership, in depth technical knowledge and guidance on all aspects of automotive Sealing Systems to achieve business objectives whilst supporting technical development on time and within budget. Reporting into the Functional Manager - your main responsibilities include;

  • Ensuring that the system meets the required functional requirements and works with the global closure system requirements, attribute targets and interfaces with other components e.g brightware,BIW & glazing
  • Responsible for the early concept layout and hardpoint definittion for the sealing system, liasing with the vehicle concept and styling departments 
  • Responsibility for the system specification, test and validation plan to achieve the cost, weight, timing and quality targets against project milestones
  • Managing external design resource and component/system suppliers to achieve the system requirements against the delivery timeline and milestones against PEP (VW Product Emergence Process)
  • Maintaining the Engineering System time plan, ensuring the system deliverables are on track, escalating issues where required
  • Supplier Management

About the Team
The Body & Trim Engineering department are responsible for the design, development, validation and sign off of all Exterior Systems. We offer our departmental services to other VW group brands and external clients through the Bentley Design & Engineering Service. We are a department of approximately 40 internal heads, with an extensive partner strategy structured around sub functional teams working across all product lines and model years.

 

About you – Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be a Lead Engineer/Technical Manager with experience in the Automotive industry/Sealing system supplier. Ideally with experience in the following areas:

  • Seal extrusion & mould tooling experience
  • Strong communication skills & able to present at all levels
  • Complex problem solving
  • Ability to coach and influence colleagues in their field of expertise
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant experience
