Purpose of the Role
Join the Whole Vehicle – Engineering Workshop team as the R&D Workshop Engineer where you'll lead the collation of technical information based on new product briefs, to enable R&D vehicle build planning. Reporting into the Functional Manager your main responsibilities include;
- Design & development of development ‘bridging’ components for prototype vehicles
- Supporting of DMU analysis of whole vehicle CAD packages.
- Deployment of the latest rapid manufacturing techniques to achieve the target R&D vehicle specification
- Generation of complex technical work instructions to support R&D workshop build activities
- Collation of data for R&D vehicle sign-off criteria
- Leading the resolution of technical issues relating to R&D vehicle builds & updates
- Leading the creation of RFQ technical content, to support work with strategic partners
- Interact with strategic partners to control cost, quality & timing
- Providing on-site & remote build support for Mules, Simulators, Prototypes & Pre-Series vehicle updates – both at our Crewe campus & with strategic partners
- Development of close working relationships with VW Group Counterparts, including project specific activities & benchmarking visits
- Support the sign-off of R&D vehicles to an agreed criteria
About the Team
The Technical Development team is based within Bentley’s new R&D Workshop. It is split into two areas of responsibility:
- Prototype Technical Development – Generates & executes the technical method to build or update R&D vehicles
- Additive Manufacturing – Develops & maintains a world class AM facility, accessible to all Bentley colleagues
About you – Skills and Experience
- Understanding of all vehicle components & their requirements, including both ICE, hybrid & EV powertrains
- Knowledge & experience of prototype vehicle build & update methods
- Exhibit a strong technical competence in mechanical & BIW fields
- A broad understanding of rapid manufacturing techniques & where to deploy them
- Excellent problem solving techniques, with a focus on both cost & quality
- An ability to generate & interrogate 2D & 3D technical data
- Experience in industrial CAD/DMU packages (Catia preferable)
- Excellent presentation skills
- An Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant experience
