About the Role

We are seeking a Powertrain Certification Engineer to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe campus (with hybrid working). Reporting to the Functional Manager- Powertrain Certification, the Powertrain Certification Engineer will be responsible for undertaking Type Approval/Certification for Vehicle Noise Emission Testing, with regards to powertrain certification. The role will also support the team with documentation changes and technical activities on the certification vehicles. 


The Technical Conformity Market Delivery team are responsible for advising on market requirements, certification testing, vehicle configuration, liaising with in-market contacts, type approval of all products in that market, support and deliver to Business requirements.


Additional responsibilities include:

  • Support the team with documentation changes and technical activities on the certification vehicles.
  • Support and Lead Certification approval of assigned subjects
  • Delivery of projects; responsible for Type Approval/Certification of systems approvals and market specific data and for planning, monitoring and expediting specified tests, documentation and Type Approval/Certification of vehicles, systems and components.
  • Problem Solving; solving complex Engineering related problems. Analysis and management of several design related issues to identify the root cause.
  • Developing and maintaining Specialist knowledge


About the Person

The successful candidate will be in an engineering role with experience gained from a legislation / certification environment. Ideally, you will have knowledge/experience of Gasoline & Hybrid or battery electric powertrain systems and certification activities related to those systems. Experience gained from the automotive industry, or very closely related to is preferred. Experience of Engine Power testing and Tailpipe Emissions testing would be advantageous. You will be a good communicator that can work effectively across the levels internally, our Group partners and external agencies in order to meet a range of key objectives.


You will demonstrate:

  • An understanding of noise emission regulation testing requirements and procedures
  • Ability to solve complex Engineering related problems; analysis and management of several design related issues to identify the root cause.
  • Able to plan, monitor and expedite specified tests through liaison with VW Group partners and external suppliers
  • Experience of data management and analysis to produce reports/presentations as appropriate and progress design guidelines
  • An Engineering degree or equivalent experience is required
