About the Role

We are seeking a Function Owner – Exterior Mechatronics Systems to join the business on a Permanent basis, at our Crewe Campus (hybrid working). Reporting to the Functional Manager – Hardware & Mirrors, the Function Owner – Exterior Mechatronics will be the Function Owner for Mechatronics Systems such as Convertible Roof, Door, Tailgate, Bonnet/Frunk, Deployable Side Step, Active Spoilers, Exterior and Interior Mirrors, Tow Hitch & Charge Flaps.

 

In this exciting role you will be responsible for leading the hardware and electrical development of the system from concept to production delivery, working with Hardware and ECU Engineers.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that the system meets the required functional requirements
  • Responsibility for the system specification, test and validation plan to achieve the cost, weight, timing and quality targets against project milestones
  • Responsibility for creation of technology roadmap(s) for the specific system, working closely with VW Group to understand the latest and future available technologies
  • Managing external design resource and component/system suppliers to achieve the system requirements against the delivery timeline and milestones against PEP (VW Product Emergence Process)
  • Maintaining the Engineering System time plan, ensuring the system deliverables are on track, escalating issues where required
  • Presenting technical issues to a Director level
  • Supporting key business customers such as Project, Purchasing, Styling, Engineering, Production Planning, Certification and Aftersales; assist with problem solving and resolving vehicle concerns, management of suppliers, liaison with VW Group colleagues

 

About the Person

The successful applicant will ideally be working within the automotive industry with experience in Mechatronic Systems & Hardware. They will have an engineering background with experience leading a Mechatronics System development, with a good understanding of ECU software and calibration developments, demonstrating an appreciation of electrical integration. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • CAD skills – CATIA v5 preferred
  • Functional Safety knowledge
  • Strong presentation, cooperation and cross-functional working skills
  • Experience of Systems engineering & V model
  • German language skills would be advantageous
