About the Role

We are seeking an Engineer – Weight Management to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe Campus (with hybrid working). Reporting to the Functional Manager – Attributes and Weight Management, the role is varied and interfaces with a wide range of stakeholders across the business, undertaking all aspects and stages of weight management.


The Engineer – Weight Management is responsible for setting and delivering  vehicle weight targets utilising sound engineering knowledge, lightweight technology trends, BoM weight roll ups and vehicle/part measurement. Concept studies and benchmarking will form a key part of this. The role uses a variety of methods and data sources from conceptual analysis to vehicle/part measurement, fulfilling certification requirements as well as development of weight management processes to maximise efficiency of the department.


The Weight Management Function is part of the Energy Management Department and is at the forefront of delivering vehicle performance, efficiency and sustainability. The Weight Management Function works cross functionally from concept, through design and development, to certification in order to manage the weight of all Bentleys and deliver product targets. 


Key responsibilities include:

  • Collect, manage and analyse data, and question and influence engineering departments to deliver targets
  • Conduct competitor benchmarking using available data and physical vehicles
  • Create and present documents up to Board level, manage own project related activities
  • Problem solving; analyse and manage multiple sources of weight data and extract relevant conclusions and recommendations
  • Verification and validation of whole vehicle weights via pre-series weighing along with component/sub-assembly weight validation as required
  • Proposal of certification weights for cross functional agreement (in line with legislative requirements) and solve complex engineering problems in accordance with certification requirements


About the Person

The successful candidate will be an experienced weight management engineer with knowledge of weight management processes, from target setting to delivery, through to global certification. You will have rigorous attention to detail, an ability to process large amounts of data and excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills. You will be a good team player that enjoys problem solving and cross functional working. Any experience of programming languages such as VBA, Python, SQL Server etc would be hugely beneficial.


You will demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of weight management and certification requirements for European and Global markets
  • Good knowledge of CAD and Bill of Materials / spec configuration systems
  • An understanding of lightweight technologies and technology
  • Experience of building strong collaborative and influential relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Good MS Excel skills, including Macro writing
