Purpose of the Role
Join the Whole Vehicle – Weight and Sustainability Management team as the Engineer – Weight Management where you'll be undertaking all aspects and stages of weight management. This is a varied role which interfaces with a wide range of stakeholders across the business and will play a pivotal role in driving our Beyond 100+ strategy aim.
In this role you will also be responsible for setting and delivering vehicle weight targets utilising sound engineering knowledge, lightweight technology trends and BoM weight roll ups. Concept studies and competitor benchmarking will form a key part of this.
Reporting into the Functional Manager – Weight and Sustainability Management your main responsibilities include;
- Collect, manage and analyse data, and influence engineering departments to deliver targets
- Verification and validation of weight data via physical weighing of vehicle, sub-assemblies or parts
- Conduct competitor benchmarking using available data and physical vehicles
- Create and present documents up to Board level, manage own project related activities
- Problem solving; analyse and manage multiple sources of weight data and extract relevant conclusions and recommendations
- Verification and validation of whole vehicle weights via Prototype and Pre-production weighing along with component/sub-assembly weight validation as required
- Proposal of certification weights for cross functional agreement (in line with legislative requirements) and solve complex engineering problems in accordance with certification requirements
About the Team
The Weight and Sustainability Management function is part of the Whole Vehicle Physics department and is at the forefront of delivering vehicle performance, efficiency and sustainability. The Weight and Sustainability Management function works cross functionally from concept, through to design/development and certification in order to manage the weight of the extraordinary Bentley product range.
About you – Skills and Experience
The successful applicant will be an experienced Engineer with knowledge of whole vehicle engineering, from target setting to delivery. You will have rigorous attention to detail and an ability to process large amounts of data. Vehicle certification knowledge/experience would be advantageous.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of whole vehicle engineering and vehicle attributes
- Good knowledge of CAD, Bill of Materials and spec configuration systems for global markets
- A demonstrable understanding of the competitor landscape and willingness to apply lightweight technologies in designing efficient vehicles
- Experience of building strong collaborative and influential relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
- An Engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience
