About the role

We are seeking several Calibration Engineers to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe campus (hybrid working options available). Reporting to Powertrain and Systems Calibration Functional Managers, the Calibration Engineers will be responsible for supporting the Technical Managers with elements of the Powertrain and System Calibration work packages within the Engine Management System.

 

The Vehicle Motion Software/DAS team and Powertrain Calibration teams are an integral part of the Motion department within R&D at Crewe.  They are responsible for bringing the Bentley Powertrain and DAS system requirements to life in our products, largely through solutions from the group platform system toolkit in order to meet the required performance targets.  

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessment of donor calibration data against the VW group quality criteria and further calibration of data labels where necessary using ETAS tools (INCA).
  • Ownership and management of data labels within the data management system.
  • Specification and validation of software functions.
  • Planning and delivering test & development programs.
  • Planning and participation in hot & cold field trials in various locations around the world.
  • Liaison with other Bentley & VW group departments.
  • Liaison with external suppliers.
  • Manage & support HiL & SiL simulation testing.

 

About the Person

The successful candidate/s will have experience in Powertrain or Systems calibration gained from an automotive OEM or engineering consultancy (preferably in the calibration of engine management or transmission control systems arenas). You will ideally offer some knowledge in the areas of hybrid operating strategy, start and warm-up, emissions, vehicle functions, driveability, sensors and actuators, networks and communication protocols, functional safety and/or OBD calibration. You will have good communication/influencing skills that can be utilised across the business, our VW Group partners and external agencies. You will have formal problem solving experience with examples of process improvements.

 

You will demonstrate:

  • Some working knowledge of Engine Management (EMS) and/or Transmission Control Unit (TCU) calibration with Bosch and/or ZF systems.
  • Experience of using INCA or other calibration software tools and MS suite skills.
  • Ability to share technical knowledge effectively with others, coach and guide as appropriate.
  • Effective technical project management
